Bethlehem Tertiary Institute

General Description
Established in 1993, Bethlehem Tertiary Institute (BTI) is a fully accredited tertiary establishment offering Teacher education, Counselling and Family Studies qualifications. It is registered by NZQA as a Private Training Establishment. Graduates are prepared and qualified for service in state, independent, integrated and Christian schools, early childhood centres and community agencies. Situated on the northern outskirts of Tauranga, the Institute shares the campus with Bethlehem College, a non-denominational integrated Christian school catering for students from pre-school to Year 13. As well as on-site courses, BTI offers a range of 'flexi' or distance options.

General Goals
Programmes prepare students for both careers in Teaching and Counselling, linking personal and professional development. They include lectures, seminar sessions, workshops and teaching experiences. BTI offers supportive programmes that maximise the growth of character knowledge and skills. An important aspect of the group experience is a real sense of community among the students and teaching staff. Each year teacher education students complete practicum experiences on site, in state and independent schools and counselling students undertake practicum in community agencies.
The programmes offer the full range of professional and curriculum areas needed in preparation for the teaching and counselling professions, developed from a Christian perspective and values base which students are encouraged to integrate into professional practice.

• 3 year centre-based Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) for those working in centres
• 1 year Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary)
• 1 year Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Education (for Primary Trained Teachers)
• 3 year Bachelor of Counselling (part time, on site and distance options)
• 3 year part time Diploma of Counselling (on site and distance options)
• Professional Development Graduate qualifications in Teacher Education and Counselling

Services & Facilities
BTI occupies modern premises amongst park-like grounds on the Bethlehem College Campus. Ample free car parking is available. Students are able to take advantage of a well stocked tertiary library complete with computer suites and high-speed internet. Counselling and student welfare services are available.
