Whangaparaoa College is a large secondary school on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula located on the outskirts of Auckland. The college is close to many beautiful beaches and nature reserves.
School Facts
Whangaparaoa College is a school committed to learning; a school that has the learners’ needs as a focus. The college opened in 2005 and has grown into a large year 7-13 secondary college. Whangaparaoa College has exceptional facilities which allows us to deliver an innovative and challenging curriculum. We have had visitors from around New Zealand and overseas to look at the curriculum and buildings.
Facilities
The school has exceptionally modern facilities:
• A space dedicated to International Students
• An outstanding performing arts centre
• A specialist recording studio
• A well-equipped sports centre which has a large gymnasium as well as a number of other teaching spaces including a fitness centre
• A large science, technology and arts building modern in design with 24 classrooms
• A specific teaching block for year 7 and 8 learners
• Teaching blocks for general classroom space
• An excellent adventure playground
• A large all weather playing surface with six tennis courts
• Four full-size playing fields, two of which are sand carpeted
• A new Information Technology suite
Curriculum
Whangaparaoa College is proud of its innovative and challenging curriculum. All learners participate in a learning programme which as well as covering the national curriculum develops those essential skills required of 21st century learners. ICT is integrated into all learning programmes.
Sports
The college has a wide ranging sport programme. This includes establishment of community sports clubs in rugby, cycling, hockey and athletics. The school also has strong sports programmes in netball, soccer, lacrosse and golf.
International Student Pastoral Care
At Whangaparaoa College the pastoral care of an international student is paramount. Our dedicated international student team is available to ensure students have the support and assistance they require during their stay at our college.
Homestay Accommodation
At Whangaparaoa College we understand that finding the right homestay family plays a vital role in making sure you have a very memorable and enjoyable overseas experience. You will be provided with your own room and provided with three meals a day. All students are provided with a 24 hour contact number in case of emergency.
