Philosophy
Tamatea High School is a community learning centre that develops individual pathways for students in order to encourage and support them to achieve personal standards of excellence in a caring environment. Our strategic goals are:
* To assist all students to develop and achieve to their personal standard of excellence.
* To celebrate cultural diversity through inclusiveness, and
* To develop fully as a community school.
Curriculum
The school offers a wide range of courses through to NCEA Level 3, Additionally there is an extensive careers education programme including transition, work experience and Gateway opportunities. Senior students are encouraged to complete university papers as appropriate and the school operates a Learning Support Centre to support individual student development and special needs (both remedial and extension).

Extra Curricular
Many and varied including drama, debating, rock climbing, theatre sports, Stage Challenge, public speaking and musical activities. The school offers a broad range of sports including basketball, cricket, golf, hockey, netball, rugby, soccer, squash, tennis and volleyball.
Facilities
The campus is attractive and modern. Well presented, it includes: an auditorium, gymnasium, music suite, library, computer and science laboratories and a technology block, as well as specialised art and photography suites. The school has a canteen and large sports grounds and outdoor seating. Fairhaven Specialist School also provides a high school facility on site.
