Special Feature

Tihoi Venture School
Unique in New Zealand, students spend half their year 10 living in chalet type accommodation. They take responsibility for house keeping, preparing meals on wood burning stoves and learn to work together with house members. The Venture School is ideally situated on the edge of the Pureora forest in close proximity to Lake Taupo, rivers and mountains for the wide range of outdoor pursuits offered. Kayaking, sailing, rock climbing, mountain craft, caving, bush survival, tramping, solo, abseiling and a six-day expedition make up the ‘weekend’ programme. The academic programme is based on an experiential learning style as students are given the opportunity to learn from the environment they live in. Academic standards are maintained in all subjects and modern technology is fully utilised.
