A Prep School and a Secondary School
Our focus is to provide an all round education; where sound work, ethics, self discipline, independent learning and leadership skills are fostered; developing balanced individuals who can go into the community with confidence and become successful citizens.
The school programme prepares students for NCEA at Levels 1, 2 and 3. Scots College is offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme as an alternative qualification for students in Year 12 and 13 from January 2010. The College is currently implementing The International Baccalaureate Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes in the Prep School.
Programmes throughout the College provide:
• Specialist teachers in curriculum areas
• A wide range of subjects – details available on the website
• The integration of Information Technology into all areas of learning
• Learning support teachers
• A House system (Secondary School) and Home Room system (Prep School) which support the pastoral and academic development of boys, and provides a sporting and cultural dimension
• Individual leadership development
Opportunities
It is important for students to be involved in school life outside the classroom enabling them to give expression to talents and skills not necessarily evident in class. At Scots we place great value on our music, drama and sporting programmes. There is a wide range of sports available at all levels and we enjoy considerable success in regional and national competitions.
All weather surfaces allow a number of sports to continue through the year.
Scots also offers four unique sports programmes: The High Performance Athletes’ Academy, The Tup Radford Intercollegiate Yachting Academy, The Golf Academy and The Football Academy.
The Performing Arts Programme enables students to take part in extensive choral and instrumental programmes and develop skills and experience in Drama activities. The College Pipe Band has members from Years 9 to 13. The Band performs at College functions and are invited to play at many special occasions in the City. They have an enviable competition record.
International Students
We have a number of International Students. These students stay in the Boarding House or in Homestay accommodation, arranged by the College. Those who are proficient in English take part in the full academic programme whilst students requiring English language assistance are enrolled in the College ESOL programme.
Boarding
The College has boarding facilities for 60 students from Year 7 to Year 13. Weekly and full term boarding options are available. Boarders are closely involved in all facets of College life and develop independence, maturity, leadership skills and lasting friendships.
