Environment
Hamilton Boys’ High School is a state secondary school for boys aged 13–19 years with a school roll of 2,200 students. It is situated on a 20 hectare site close to the city centre, and provides comprehensive facilities for academic, technological, cultural, sporting and recreational activities. The school has three gymnasiums, eight tennis courts and a swimming pool.
The school maintains a strong belief in traditional values of self-discipline, respect, loyalty, considerate behaviour and competitive spirit.

Courses Available
Students are able to choose a course of study appropriate to their individual strengths and future career plans. Graduating students can continue their tertiary study in Hamilton at Waikato University and Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec). The range of subjects available include: English, ESOL (with IELTS taught at Year 13 level), Modern languages, Mathematics, Sciences, Technology, Accounting and Economic Studies, History and Geography, Art, Art History and Classical Studies, Music, Graphics and Design, Computing, Physical Education, CAD courses. Courses are tailored to meet the individual needs and future study plans of each student.

Extracurricular Programme
Music tuition in most instruments is available at school, also choir, orchestra, jazz band, chamber groups, rock groups. Debating and chess clubs.
Over 34 individual and team sports and outdoor education activities are available.

Programme for International Students
Hamilton Boys’ High School has a Dean of International students who oversees the academic programmes, the Homestay accommodation and the pastoral care of these students.
Students receive extra English tuition each week and they meet regularly with their Dean to discuss any concerns which they, or their parents may have. The number of overseas students enrolled at the school is limited each year and those who are accepted find a warm and supportive welcome, from both the staff and students.
Parents are contacted regularly by the Dean to inform them of their son’s progress and well-being and are welcome to contact the Dean if they have any concerns.

Accommodation
Overseas students live either in a New Zealand home which is selected and visited regularly by the Homestay Co-ordinator, or in the school hostel which is sited in the school grounds.
Students have their own bedroom, and have all meals and laundry provided by the homestay. They are also included in the family’s outings and activities, and are treated as a member of the family.
Students arriving in New Zealand alone can be met at Auckland International airport, and can be given assistance arranging banking, and the compulsory medical insurance. Some vacancies in the school Hostel each year are reserved for overseas students.

Applications
Enrolments are accepted throughout the year with students able to begin their studies at the start of any of the first three school terms of the year.
Students wishing to apply for a place should be academically successful in their own countries, and of good character. They should be willing to participate in extracurricular activities, to help them to settle quickly.
A good level of spoken English is desirable, but a course at a Language School prior to commencing studies at Hamilton Boys’ High School, can be arranged if necessary.

English Language Proficiency
Good spoken English needed. However, attendance at a language school prior to enrolment at Hamilton Boys’ High School may be required if a student’s English fluency is not satisfactory for his academic level.
