Philosophy
Dilworth was founded in 1894 under the terms of the will of an Auckland farmer and businessman Irish born James Dilworth, who died in 1894. Following the terms of the will, full boarding and tuition scholarships are offered to the sons of parents and guardians who are in adverse financial and/or other compelling circumstances.
The Founder’s will calls upon the Trustees to train and educate the boys for whom they accept responsibility to become ‘good and useful members of society’. The school follows the Anglican tradition of Christian worship with chapel services and the teaching of Christian Living being important to the school’s philosophy.
The school encourages an all-round pursuit of excellence, encouraging an appropriate balance between the academic, sporting and cultural aspects. The school encourages in each student a desire to achieve and give of his best, a tolerance of others and the setting of realistic personal goals. The school is very well resourced on all campuses with buildings and facilities that are the envy of many.
The Rural Campus situated at Mangatawhiri provides a year-long rural experience for all Year 9 boys
