A fully-equipped gymnasium, modern auditorium, and aquatic centre equipped with kayaks, yachts and windsurfers are among our superb facilities. We have easy access to a heated swimming pool, hockey turf and golf course. Golf, outdoor education and water-based tuition are strengths. Specialist teaching rooms include two computer suites, music practice rooms, drama facilities, art graphics, catering, workshop and library and information centre.
The school has a fine tradition of participation in sporting and cultural activities. Our Outdoor Education Programmes provide many opportunities for students to fully utilise our unique location.
We value our overseas students and appreciate the opportunity to internationalise our school. In recent years, students from Thailand, Canada, Japan, Germany and Brazil have attended the school. Our aim is to encourage a small number of students from a range of countries to enrich our community. English language support is intensive and tailored to meet individual needs as the year progresses.
Outdoor Recreation or Golf Academy with Independent Living Programme
In the Outdoor Recreation programme students commit to a six-day week, and on Sundays have a full day of practical sailing, kayaking, tramping, skiing, etc earning NZQA credits. The Central Otago Golf Academy also requires a six-day commitment with mid-week coaching sessions, Saturday competition and various away trips.
Students live in purpose-built apartments under supervision, sharing cooking, laundry and cleaning duties and developing co-operation, team building, leadership skills and time management. It is an important link between adolescence and adulthood. The friendships formed and skills learned last a lifetime.
