Philosophy
Founded in 1957 by the Sisters of Mercy on the shore of Lake Pupuke, Carmel has excellent facilities for a modern curriculum.
It is the school’s intent to provide a ‘whole person’ education in a Roman Catholic and Mercy environment. Therefore, the Board of Trustees and staff are committed to giving students an education which respects their dignity, rights and individuality as well as challenging them to achieve personal standards of excellence and reach their full potential.
Parallel to this is an emphasis on Gospel values of love, freedom, justice and tolerance, particularly towards those who are disadvantaged.
Carmel is a Mercy school in its foundation and philosophy, focussing each year on a specific core Mercy Value. It has a special commitment to the education and empowerment of women and a well deserved reputation for academic excellence.
