Philosophy
The Board of Trustees, Principal and Staff are delighted to welcome International students to Avonside Girls’ High School. We are a large urban High School with a roll of about 1200 girls from Year 9 to Year 13.
At Avonside we aim to provide girls with choices and opportunities in a safe and supportive environment to help them succeed in academic, sporting and cultural achievements. The school values achievement, striving for excellence and full participation in all aspects of school life. Girls are supported in developing responsibility for their own learning by a highly qualified teaching staff. The focus is on empowering students to become confident, connected, actively involved learners. Students are encouraged to take pride in themselves and their school. Avonside is enriched by being a culturally diverse community. The school fosters the values of team work and caring for others.
Avonside provides a wide curriculum which offers option choices at all levels and prepares girls for tertiary education, future careers and lifelong learning. Girls are urged to excel in a positive and focused learning environment.
The school has a historic main red brick building and is set in attractive grounds with mature trees and well kept gardens. The buildings house up-to-date facilities for the curricula including technology, science, computing laboratories, gymnasia and fitness centre, and a modern library information centre with full e-mail/internet access. The school has a beautifully restored historic main red brick building and is set in attractive grounds with mature trees and well kept gardens. Student Welfare
We believe in helping each girl and getting to know each girl and so the International Director, Assistant Director, and Home-stay Coordinator are at school each day to assist the girls. There are also ESOL teachers, counsellors, sports director, careers staff, deans and form teachers and subject teachers available. All staff are well-qualified and available and willing to assist students.
The students are also placed in one of six school Houses and this engenders more cross-curricula and across-age group interactions, particularly for sport and cultural activities.
