• A top sporting school, with teams regularly being regional finalists or winners.
• Outstanding cultural achievement, including a 100-voice male choir.
• Traditional values. Progressive teaching. Safe, friendly, supportive of boys’ progress and achievement.
• Founded in 1883 Waitaki Boys’ is enriched by a proud heritage and is one of the most beautiful schools in New Zealand, with many hectares of lawns and gardens, and backing the Pacific Ocean.
• With a roll of just 500, we are small enough to know each boy well, and large enough to offer an extensive academic and vocational curriculum and an impressive co-curricular programme.
• Specialist buildings include an historic Gothic Hall, a modern Auditorium, a spacious Art suite, a gymnasium and fitness centre, modern Technology workshops, and four rooms with class sets of computers. The school and hostel are networked for internet and all boys are given an e-mail account as well as their own storage space on a school server.
• Don House – our hostel, is located on campus and is home to boys from all over New Zealand and many different countries. The Hostel is very supportive of the school with its homework programmes and activity schedules. Two unique features to this hostel are the Skiing and Snowboarding teams and the Hunting and Fishing Club.
• The historic town of Oamaru is safe and secure, and is a gateway to the University of Otago in Dunedin. Oamaru is one of the most Victorian style towns in the southern hemisphere.
• Partner schools include Vajiravudh College (Thailand), Schule Schloss Salem (Germany).

“The phrase “Small Is Beautiful” came to our mind during our first visit to WBHS. We were looking for a place that our boy can grow as an individual – to become a man. Academic achievement was not the only answer we were looking for. Flexibility, hospitality, professionalism, and good hostel environment are all counted. Two years have gone by, our boy has transformed to a confident, content young man with self discipline. WBHS has broadened his horizon, and made him (and us) understand the art of learning and boarding. Living among boys from different walks of life has been a memorable experience for him. We owe it all to WBHS and the hostel.”
