Detailed Profile
Oratia District School
“A community striving to succeed and acting with integrity”
Situated in the foothills of the Waitakere Ranges of West Auckland, Oratia District School is the last school on West Coast Road before crossing the ranges to the beaches of Piha and Karekare. Although our school is surrounded by orchards and vineyards which create a sense of being in the country, ours is a thoroughly contemporary school with an emphasis on raising student achievement.
Oratia District School is a values based school.
We value:
• sustainability
• learning
• integrity
• community
• excellence
All that we do is grounded in those values. As an Enviro School we work to foster sustainability, reduce, re-use and recycle.
We are a Decile 9 Contributing Primary School with classes from Year 1–6.
Children find learning at our school exciting, interesting, challenging and encouraging of their success. Our staff are dedicated and aim to attain excellence in a positive, caring learning environment that prepares our students for the future.
We use inquiry based learning which encourages thinking, problem solving, questioning and innovation. We pride ourselves on being a school where the arts have a high profile. Students have opportunities to learn to play a musical instrument, play sport or participate in a cultural activity such as the kapa haka group. We provide opportunities for students to learn an additional language such as French or Maori.
