NZ Fashion Tech
Our Goal
We assist students to launch successful and lucrative careers in the exciting Fashion & Sewn Product industries.
General Information
All programmes have a limited number of students, involve 35 hours tutor contact time per week and all equipment and resources are already provided. This assists students to rapidly gain the essential skills and qualifications. Upon graduation, students are then able to quickly establish themselves in one of the many career opportunities available in these vital and exciting industries.
Work experience is an integral component of the programme, and some of the best employment opportunities result from this.
Student Loans and Allowances are available.
Programmes:
Certificate in Garment Technology (Foundation) Level 3
A practical programme offering a wide range of sewing, garment assembly and production skills that will lead to many opportunities in the fashion & sewn products industries such as entry level garment technician, production assistant, cutting room assistant, or further education within NZIFT, Polytechnics or industry.
Qualifications available:
• NZIFT Certificate in Garment Technology (Foundation) – Level 3
• National Certificate in Clothing Manufacture (Commercial Sewing Skills) – Level 3
• ATITO Machinist Certificate of Achievement (Equal to 16 credits at Level 3)
Certificate in Pattern Design Level 3
Pre-requisites for this programme are:
• Successful completion of ‘Certificate in Garment Technology (Foundation)’ or
• Demonstrate equivalent Industry skills and
• Competent level of literacy and numeracy
• Workplace communication skills
This programme is designed to give graduates the essential body measurement, pattern making & grading, garment construction and cutting skills for entry into the fashion & sewn product industries as entry level patternmaking/cutting assistant, production assistant or further education within NZIFT, Polytechnics or industry.
Qualifications available:
• NZIFT Certificate in Pattern Design - Level 3
• National Certificate in Clothing Manufacture (Design and Patternmaking) Level 3
NZIFT Diploma in Fashion Technology (Level 5)
This builds on previous programmes and offers an opportunity for graduates to gain an advanced qualification that will increase their prospects of employment in beginning positions of responsibility within the broader fashion and sewn products industries.
Pre-requisites for this programme are:
• Successful completion of NZIFT Certificate in Pattern Design or
• Demonstrate equivalent industry skills and experience
Qualifications available:
• NZIFT Diploma in Fashion Technology (Level 5)
• NZQA Unit Standards – Levels 4 and 5
