Mission Statement
The Boating Industry Training Organisation is accountable to its stakeholders to ensure that there is an ongoing supply of appropriately skilled and qualified personnel for the New Zealand Marine Industry.

Role
* Registered under the Industry Training Act and contracted to Tertiary Education Commission (Government) to administer and facilitate industry training requirements for the NZ boating industry.
* Develops unit standards and National Qualifications Framework qualifications to meet industry training needs.
* Arranges the delivery and assessment of the training.
* Supports and advises employers and trainees to ensure successful training outcomes.

Skill Coverage
The skill areas which the BITO concentrates on are the design, building and manufacturing of yachts and boats (from small dinghies to ocean-going motor and sail yachts up to 120 metres), and the associated support industries, such as the storage, buying and selling, retail supplies, maintenance and servicing of these vehicles.
