Agriculture ITO (AgITO)
BackgroundThrough Agriculture ITO, people in the rural sector are given the opportunity to study towards a challenging and rewarding career in agriculture. We are one of New Zealand's largest industry training organisations, helping more than 8,000 people into training each year. Our trainees cover recent school leavers to farm managers and people making a new career move into farming. We offer nationally recognised and New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) registered qualifications in industry sectors ranging from dairy, sheep and cattle to rural servicing, wool harvesting, pork and poultry.
Learn while you earnTrainees gain their qualifications through a mix of practical (on-job) and theory-based (off-job) study:
* practical training takes place on the job, with trainees learning the ropes from experienced farmers and employers
* theory-based training happens off the job through accredited training providers either through day-release classes or distance learning. It's arranged by Agriculture ITO Training/Industry Advisers.
Nationally recognised qualificationsKnowledge and skills learnt on the farm can earn credits toward national NZQA qualifications, well recognised throughout the agriculture industry. All our training programmes progress towards National Certificates in specific agriculture sectors or the National Diploma in Agribusiness Management.
Modern ApprenticeshipsWe also offer Modern Apprenticeships - a government- sponsored programme that provides support and mentoring for 16 to 21 year olds working in our industry. It's all part of ensuring we attract, train and retain the high-calibre people our industry needs, for today and the future.
